NSW – SAPPHIRE COAST
“South Coast Golfing”
Thank you Lee for firstly bringing to our attention again the wonderful South Coast in your recent article but also for all your thorough information and correspondence re our planning the trip.
Our group of twelve golfers from Gosford agreed on another trip after a week in the Murray last year.
As we had brought up the idea of a repeat trip it was up to us to decide the venue. Once we had narrowed down the dates a final agreement was made, April 21st for seven days staying at The Coast Resort Merimbula.
We certainly had glorious weather, very warm for that time of year our only wet day being our lay day.
Accommodation was great, new apartments bright and airy two couples per apartment. All of us had views over the lap pool, which was used regularly. The resort was close to the beach & lake with many scenic walking tracks, which again all of us enjoyed.
Our first course was Pambula-Merimbula, which everyone enjoyed especially with all the local fauna; some of those kangaroos were enormous. It was great to play on fairways with plenty of grass under your ball. Next day off to Bega, some of the ladies found this course very long (a bit up & down) and were disappointed as there were no kangaroos. The greens were starting to get faster as well! After our day off we headed to Tathra and everyone had a great day, all agreed it was one of their favourite courses and the greens were magnificent for a country course. Eden course was again a challenge for some but very interesting to play and again we weren’t disappointed with the kangaroo population and bird life. Our last challenge was Tura Beach this course proved very difficult for the ladies especially the back nine but the views were spectacular.
Everyone certainly enjoyed their trip, some going on to Melbourne others travelling home via Canberra and Kangaroo Valley. The South Coast is so scenic and the locals very helpful and if you love oysters they have the best! Again many thanks for your organization of the accommodation and courses.
Kind Regards,
